For the compilation "Visions of Students Today," Michael Wesch had young people submit videos that portrayed students today. According to the videos, and the students who submitted them, students are consuming 11 hours of media per day ("Visions of Students"). What they are also consuming are, they believe, a "collection of unrelated facts" in school ("Visions of Students"). One student went so far as to claim that the collection of unrelated facts was the entire goal of education. Either students are too cynical about their teachers' real goals, or the public education system as it is does not give 21st century students what they need. Judging by the overwhelming amount of students who responded to Wesch's request for videos, it seems to be the latter. So if the current model of education does not fit the current student, what are students - and teachers - going to do about it?
Most teachers, and most students, hate to fail at something. But according to Derek Sivers, failure is good for us - as long as we have the right mindset about it. As he put it, "If you're not failing, you're not learning."
